The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) governs high school track and field across six classifications: 7A/6A (combined, largest) through 1A (smallest), based on school enrollment. Each classification holds its own state championship.
The Qualification Pathway
Athletes qualify for the state meet through conference qualifying meets. Top finishers from each conference advance to the state championship.
Athletes qualify through conference meets with top finishers advancing to state.
Sprint and hurdle events run prelim heats, with top finishers advancing to finals.
Distance events are run as timed finals.
No javelin event — field events include shot put, discus, high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump.
300m hurdles used (not 400m hurdles).
8 places score with points: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

How to Read This Data
Final Qualifier = the final qualifying mark to make the state meet. This is the minimum mark an athlete needed during the season to earn a berth. 1st Place = the state meet champion's actual result. 8th Place = the 8th place finisher at the state meet.
We show the 1600 Meter Run in full detail below. Sprints, hurdles, relays, and field events are summarized with 2025 standards, and the full breakdowns are in the downloadable package.

HISTORICAL WEATHER — STATE MEET CONDITIONS
What to Expect at the Arkansas State Meet
We pulled the actual recorded weather for every day of the AAA state meet going back to 2022. The full weather PDF in the download package shows conditions every two hours from 8 AM to 8 PM — temperature, conditions, sustained wind, wind gusts, precipitation, and humidity.
Here is the summary for each year:
Year
Dates
Venue
Temp Range
Max Gusts
Conditions
The full weather PDF shows conditions every two hours (8 AM to 8 PM) for each day — so you can see exactly when the wind picked up, when it rained, and how conditions changed throughout the meet. It is included in the download package.
See the qualifying standards above? The full package shows you 4 years of trends plus what the champion and podium finisher actually ran. That's the context your athletes need.

Subject: College recruiting resource for our athletes
Hi team families,
I wanted to share a resource that I think will be helpful for families who are thinking about college running.
Next Mile Recruiting is run by Jay Johnson, a former Division I recruiting coordinator at the University of Colorado. He's built a system that helps high school distance runners and their families navigate the college recruiting process — from figuring out what level is realistic to communicating with coaches to understanding the timeline.
It's not a recruiting service — it's a resource. They have a lot of free content and tools that are worth checking out, whether your athlete is a freshman just starting to think about it or a junior getting serious.
I trust his work, and I think you'll find it valuable.

Important: BCC info@nextmilerecruiting.com on this email, and we'll send you the download link for all 50 states.
The recruiting process doesn't have to be confusing.
We're building the definitive resource for college distance running recruiting — for families and the coaches who support them. Join the priority list and we'll let you know when it's ready.
