How Washington State Track Qualification Works
Washington has six classifications — 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, 2B, and 1B — governed by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). The state championships are held over the same weekend in late May, split across two venues by classification group. Note: this is Washington’s WIAA, not Wisconsin’s WIAA — two different organizations sharing an acronym.
Washington runs district / sub-district → state qualifying. Each district publishes its own qualifying meet schedules, and the top finishers (typically top 4 per event) advance to the state championship. With six classes, Washington runs more state-meet events than most states, including the smaller 2B / 1B classes that often draw athletes from rural eastern Washington.
WIAA publishes results as combined PDFs each year — one document covers Classes 1B, 2B, and 1A together; a separate document covers Classes 2A, 3A, and 4A. Both PDFs include boys and girls events. Below: every WIAA state meet from 2022–2025.
Full Meet Results
WIAA publishes two combined PDFs per year — one for the smaller classes (1B / 2B / 1A) and one for the larger classes (2A / 3A / 4A). Each PDF covers boys and girls events.
