How Connecticut State Track Qualification Works

Connecticut runs a multi-meet structure for outdoor track. Each of the four enrollment-based classifications — Class S, M, L, LL — holds its own state championship in late May/early June. The top performers from each class then advance to the State Open — a single combined invitational that crowns Connecticut’s overall state champions head-to-head. Many CT athletes also continue to the New England Championships the following weekend.

Connecticut runs all of these on the same venue rotation: Willow Brook Park in New Britain hosts most years. The State Open is the marquee meet for college recruiting purposes — it’s where the absolute best in the state line up against each other, regardless of school size.

This page currently links only the State Open. Per-class meets (S/M/L/LL) and the New England Championships are coming in a follow-up update that adds support for tier-stratified result links to our schema. For now, the State Open is below; we’ll surface the class meets and New Englands as soon as the upgrade ships.

New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The post-season regional championship that brings together top performers from CT, MA, RI, NH, VT, and ME. Held the weekend after the CIAC State Open, often at UMass Amherst, UMaine, or UNH. The New Englands is where the best CT athletes face the best of the rest of the region head-to-head, often producing the year’s fastest CT marks.

What Next Mile Recruiting actually is

We’re not a recruiting service. We’re education for families.

We help parents understand how college recruiting actually works so they can make a great decision about where their athlete runs in college — and so the conversations they have with you are better informed.

If you’ve been coaching for years or decades, the recruiting landscape has changed dramatically since the House settlement. Roster caps, the transfer portal, scholarship structures — what worked five years ago doesn’t work the same way now. I’ve written a short email series just for high school coaches to get you caught up on what you need to know to help your athletes. Drop your email below.
