How South Dakota State Track Qualification Works
South Dakota has three classifications — Class AA, Class A, and Class B — governed by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA). The state meet is held over a single weekend in late May, with all three classes contested at the same venue (typically Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls or Brookings).
South Dakota runs region → state qualifying. Each class has multiple regions, with the top finishers from each region advancing. Because South Dakota is geographically large but population-light, regional meets often draw athletes from a wide footprint, and the top performers at state are well-known statewide before they ever line up.
SDHSAA delegates results hosting to its timing partner; results live on athletic.net through Dakota Timing. Below: every SDHSAA state meet from 2022–2025 — three per-class meets per year, both genders covered at each.
