How Virginia State Track Qualification Works
Virginia has six classifications — Class 6 (largest schools, 1900+ enrollment) through Class 1 (475 or fewer) — governed by the Virginia High School League (VHSL). Each classification holds its own state championship, run as a separate meet over the same weekend in late May/early June.
Virginia runs district / region → state qualifying. Each classification is divided into 4 regions (A, B, C, D), and the top finishers from each region advance to the state meet. With six classes and four regions per class, Virginia produces a deep statewide field every year.
VHSL delegates state meet results hosting to MileSplit Virginia. Each year’s six per-class meets are listed below as separate links. Both genders compete at each per-class meet.
