How New Jersey State Track Qualification Works

New Jersey runs a three-tier postseason for outdoor track. Athletes start at Sectionals — each of the 4 enrollment-based Groups (G1-G4) plus the Non-Public groups holds 4 sectional meets across the state (16+ sectional meets total). The top finishers advance to Group Championships. Then the top performers across all Groups face off head-to-head at the Meet of Champions (MoC) — the marquee invitational that crowns New Jersey’s overall state champions.

The MoC is the single meet that matters most for college recruiting purposes — it’s where every top NJ athlete competes against every other top NJ athlete, regardless of group or section. Group Championships also produce significant recruiting performances, particularly in events where the MoC field is small.

This page currently links only the Meet of Champions. Group Championships are coming in a follow-up update that adds support for tier-stratified result links to our schema. Sectionals likely won’t be integrated — 16+ meets per year is too granular for most recruiting purposes.

NJSIAA Group Championships

NJSIAA pairs its enrollment-based Group meets at shared venues to manage the schedule — the exact pairings shift year-to-year, but the format is consistent: each year produces 2-3 combined meet documents covering all six Groups (Group 1 through Group 4 plus Non-Public A and Non-Public B). Top performers from these Group Championships advance to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. Below: every NJSIAA Group Championship document from 2022–2025.

What Next Mile Recruiting actually is

We’re not a recruiting service. We’re education for families.

We help parents understand how college recruiting actually works so they can make a great decision about where their athlete runs in college — and so the conversations they have with you are better informed.

If you’ve been coaching for years or decades, the recruiting landscape has changed dramatically since the House settlement. Roster caps, the transfer portal, scholarship structures — what worked five years ago doesn’t work the same way now. I’ve written a short email series just for high school coaches to get you caught up on what you need to know to help your athletes. Drop your email below.
