How South Carolina State Track Qualification Works
South Carolina has five classifications — AAAAA, AAAA, AAA, AA, and A — governed by the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL). Each classification holds its own state championship in mid-May, with the meets typically run at separate venues across the state.
South Carolina runs region → upper/lower state → state qualifying for the larger classes (AAAAA in particular splits into Division 1 and Division 2 sub-meets), and a more streamlined region-to-state path for smaller classes. SCHSL is one of the deeper Southern states for sprints and jumps, with strong programs concentrated in the Charleston, Columbia, and Upstate regions.
SCHSL delegates state meet results hosting to MileSplit. Below: every SCHSL state championship from 2022–2025 — five per-class meets per year, both genders covered at each meet.
