The Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) governs high school track and field across four classifications: 4A (largest schools), 3A, 2A, and 1A (smallest). Each classification holds its own state championship meet at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper.
The Qualification Pathway
Athletes must first meet WHSAA qualifying standards, then advance through regional meets split into East and West divisions. Top finishers from each regional advance to the state championship, held over three days in late May.
4 classifications: 4A (largest), 3A, 2A, 1A (smallest) by enrollment.
Athletes must meet WHSAA qualifying standards to compete at regionals.
Regional meets are split East/West geographically within each classification.
Top finishers from each regional advance to the state championship in Casper.
Sprint and hurdle events run prelim heats, with top finishers advancing to finals.
Distance events (800m, 1600m, 3200m) are typically run as timed finals.
Relay events include 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, and 1600 Sprint Medley (200-200-400-800).
Field events use flights based on qualifying marks.
8 places score with points: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Subject: College recruiting resource for our athletes
Hi team families,
I wanted to share a resource that I think will be helpful for families who are thinking about college running.
Next Mile Recruiting is run by Jay Johnson, a former Division I recruiting coordinator at the University of Colorado. He's built a system that helps high school distance runners and their families navigate the college recruiting process — from figuring out what level is realistic to communicating with coaches to understanding the timeline.
It's not a recruiting service — it's a resource. They have a lot of free content and tools that are worth checking out, whether your athlete is a freshman just starting to think about it or a junior getting serious.
I trust his work, and I think you'll find it valuable.

Important: BCC info@nextmilerecruiting.com on this email, and we'll send you the download link for all 50 states.
